Kevin Durant has some advice for New York’s newest superstar.
The Jets acquired wideout Davante Adams in a trade with the Raiders earlier this week, and Durant, the former Net, joined Kay Adams on Thursday’s episode of “Up & Adams” to impart some wisdom for the latest Big Apple transplant.
When Adams, the host of her FanDuel TV show, asked if there’s more pressure playing in New York, given the fans and constant media attention, Durant said things actually aren’t as bad as people make it seem.
“People who haven’t played in New York talk about the New York market. Like once you play in New York, you realize that it’s not as scary as you think,” Durant said. “People, just like anywhere else, you’re gonna get criticized if you don’t play well. And they’re gonna love you when you win. So just win. … It’s that simple with New York.”
Durant played two and a half seasons in Brooklyn with the Nets, coming one win away from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2020-21 campaign, one in which he was an All-Star.
The surefire Pro Basketball Hall of Famer added that if you show up and play with some energy and gusto, New York fans will appreciate it.
“If you come to play, people appreciate the work that you put in on the field. Davante is one of those workers who’s gonna come to work, do his job. So I think he gonna get a lot of love there.”
Adams, the new Jets star, also joined the show on Thursday and confirmed that the Jets, Steelers, Bills and Saints were on his list of destinations he wanted to be dealt to.
The two-time reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs, however, were not on the list.
The Jets, in the end, were his No. 1 choice, and now, he gets to join forces with quarterback Aaron Rodgers again after they put up gaudy numbers together in Green Bay.
Adams told reporters Wednesday that he hopes the trade begins a new multi-year relationship with the Jets.
“I hope so. That’s the plan,” Adams said. “I never go somewhere in hopes of having to find a new home.”
In three games this year, he has 18 catches for 209 yards.
Adams is expected to make his Jets debut Sunday night against the Steelers.
