Wondering where you could sip on an exclusive glass of prestigious bubbles, this Christmas?
Why, Greggs of course.
Following the success of last year’s Greggs Bistro, where pastry lovers in the North East could enjoy a fine dining version of the iconic bakery’s menu, Greggs is levelling up, bringing a champagne bar to Newcastle.
The pop up champagne bar in department store Fenwick, will be open every day (excluding Thursdays) from 11.30am until their closing time, from October 24 all the way until New Year’s Eve.
Alongside fan favourite bakes and sweet treats, the bar – in Fenwick Newcastle – will be serving Bollinger Rosé and Laurent Perrier by the glass or the bottle.
If you’re feeling extra fancy, the Greggs Champagne Bar will be the only place in the North East where customers can purchase the prestigious Louis Roederer Cristal by the glass, for a small fortune of £75 per glass (or £425 by the bottle).
And it gets better: customers will also be able to taste signature Greggs-inspired cocktails like the Yum Yum Twist, the Cream Éclair or the non-alcoholic Peach Melba mocktail.
They’ll also be bringing back Bistro Greggs’ signature Pink Jammie Fizz.
Now for the food: on the menu, curated by Fenwick executive head Chef Mark Reid, fan-favourite snacks will be taken up a notch as small plates with contemporary condiments.
The famous Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt will be paired with Bloody Mary ketchup, for instance, while the sausage roll will come with a hot honey chilli sauce.
Small plates will start at £4, with prosecco starting at £10 by the glass and £37 by the bottle, and champagne at £10 per glass or £55 per bottle.
Cocktails start at £11, while the mocktail will only set you back £7.
Fans have been quick to share their views online, with one person on X saying that they approved of this ‘cultural anarchy’. While another echoed the nation’s confusion with: ‘Things you didn’t expect to read today.’
Meanwhile, Greggs has also had to convince fans that it isn’t a prank, after one commented: ‘It’s not April, so this must be real.’
Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs said: ‘Whilst champagne and Greggs might not be the most immediate food and drink pairing, following the success and reaction to our Greggs Bistro last year, we’re excited for the launch of the Greggs Champagne Bar at Fenwick,’ said
