Letters: Sask. deficits, tax hikes undermine ‘strong economy’ claims

Readers offer their opinions on the priorities of the Saskatchewan Party as the election nears and claims about the new federal pharmacare program.

It’s well established that the manufacturing industry provides the greatest amount of and most diverse jobs. This is recently proven by Mexico with significant GDP and it is now the largest trading partner of the USA.

The Saskatchewan Party thrives in its bubble of rhetoric and is missing the exponential global opportunity to encourage and invest in green energy manufacturing and related industries.

It’s very important to vote in this election while being able to sort through factual evidence versus misinformation and more empty promises.

Misinformation false on pharmacare plan

I wish to mark the historic passing of the pharmacare bill (Bill C-64). As a proponent of the inclusion of prescription drugs into our medicare system for over 60 years, I am fully supportive.

There is nothing in this bill, nor has there ever been anything, that supports the idea that a public plan will prevent access to enhanced coverage beyond what the public plan will provide.

It should be noted that the Canadian Labour Congress, the United Steel Workers, the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions and many others support Bill C-64.

As pharmacare is expanded from the initial coverage of contraceptives and diabetic drugs and supplies to full coverage, drug coverage through collective bargaining agreements will be modified.

The employer and the employees will come to agreement on the need for enhanced coverage of benefits or wages. It’s just common sense!
