Ex-President Donald Trump revealed that his eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump, drove him ‘crazy’ on one issue while in the White House.
Ivanka, who served as a senior adviser to her father, was name-dropped by him as he spoke at a Fox News town hall on women’s issues on Wednesday morning.
A single mother in the audience identified as Rachel said that she broke her neck and could not afford to pay for child care last year, and asked Trump how he would financially help parents raising children.
‘You’ve never heard of Ivanka, right? Ivanka?’ said Trump.
‘My daughter drove me crazy on this.’
Trump said that Ivanka told him child tax credits were necessary.
‘My daughter, Ivanka, she said, “Dad, we have to do tax credits for women, you know, for the child tax credits,’ he said.
‘Then I did it, and I got it just about done.’
The former president continued that Ivanka ‘was driving me crazy’ and that when he got child tax credits through, she said, ‘Dad you’ve got to double it up.’
Trump told Rachel that he saw through ‘the largest tax cuts in the history of our country’.
He added that he plans to give even higher tax credits if he wins the November election, but did not go into detail on how much he planned to raise child tax credits.
A Republican tax law that was approved in 2017 increased the child tax credit from $1,000 to $2,000 for each child, but did not aid low-income families who did not benefit from the prior tax credit.
Rachel said that her child tax credit shrunk about 80%, while daycare cost her roughly $1,400 per child monthly.
Speaking to the former president before an all-female audience in Pennsylvania, she admitted she could not stop ‘shaking like a leaf’.
‘I’m having a panic attack right now,’ she laughed nervously.
After Trump left the White House, Ivanka said she would be focusing on her children and family. She has stayed out of politics during her father’s 2024 campaign.
