Amari Cooper had one small message after a surprise trade involving his name on Tuesday afternoon.
The star wideout was sent from the sinking Browns to the first-place Bills, and he took to his Instagram story, where he wrote three words without any other context.
“Move or rust,” Cooper wrote in the post that did not contain any pictures.
The trade — which includes a 2025 third-round pick and 2026 seventh-rounder going to Cleveland for Cooper and a 2025 sixth-rounder — was completed just hours after the Jets made their own blockbuster deal for a wideout, reuniting Aaron Rodgers with Davante Adams.
The five-time Pro Bowler had 24 catches for 250 yards with Deshaun Watson in Cleveland, but he should see his numbers tick up with Josh Allen in Buffalo.
Cooper immediately would be Buffalo’s leading receiver, as Khalil Shakir has led the Bills with 249 yards receiving with two touchdowns.
After Stefon Diggs went to the Texans in an offseason trade, the Bills were less top-heavy on the outside, with five players recording double-digit receptions through six games.
Without Cooper, the Bills ranked 23rd in passing offense with 1,118 yards.
Even with Cooper, the Browns have floundered on offense, totaling just 858 passing yards — which ranks 29th in the NFL.
“We appreciate Amari’s hard work, professionalism and on-field contributions throughout his two plus seasons with us,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement on Tuesday. “He created many memorable moments with us and was an integral part of our 2023 playoff team.
“We wish him the best in Buffalo as he continues his NFL career.”
