Health Minister Adriana LaGrange announces new Primary Care Alberta agency

Alberta’s new agency overseeing primary health care will be operational in November, Health Minister Adriana LaGrange announced Tuesday.

The agency, Primary Care Alberta, will work to get more people access to providers such as family doctors or nurse practitioners, LaGrange.

Other models of care are possible, including virtual appointments.

LaGrange said Alberta Health Services has been unable to focus on primary health care and has been lacking system oversight.

The Alberta government’s dismantling of the health agency is expected to include two more organizations responsible for hospital care and continuing care.
