Toyota recalls 5,585 Corolla Cross SUVs in Canada over brakes

Affected vehicles may experience a stiff brake pedal, potentially making them take longer to stop than expected

  • Toyota is recalling 5,585 Corolla Cross SUVs in Canada and another 42,199 in the U.S.
  • The affected vehicles are hybrid vehicles from the 2023 and 2024 model years
  • A faulty brake actuator assembly could cause “a hard brake pedal with reduced braking force”

According to the recall report sent to NHTSA, the brake issue comes from a software error in the skid-control electronic control unit (ECU). Toyota says, in certain situations, when turning a corner, the driver may experience a “a hard brake pedal.” If this happens, the stopping distance may be more than expected, and can increase the risk of an accident.

Owners will be notified by mail by late November and advised to their vehicle to a Toyota dealership to update the skid control ECU software for the brake actuator, free of charge.
