Wilko fell into administration last August, but the much-loved retailer is back, and the good news keeps on coming for shoppers who will now be able to get their orders quicker than ever before.
In addition to news that the retailer’s seventh branch in Uxbridge, west London, will open its doors to the public on 22 November at 9am, yet another exciting development has been revealed.
Determined to make the brand more accessible to customers, Wilko has announced that it will partner with Deliveroo to deliver orders to your door in as little as 25 minutes.
From sachets of seeds, dog poo bags and the thousands of other cleaning, home, garden, kitchen, DIY and storage products, almost everything you need is available at the tap of a button.
In a statement issued to metro.co.uk, Wilko owner CDS Superstores CEO Alex Simpkin said the collaboration makes the retailer ‘so much more accessible’ for customers and allows them to reach them quicker.
‘This partnership gives us the opportunity to reach people quicker. All the great things you expect from Wilko and more in as little as 25 minutes!’
Meanwhile, Deliveroo chief operating officer Eric French said the new launch is ‘fantastic’ and admitted they are ‘excited’ to be expanding Deliveroo Shopping.
‘Our customers really value the convenience of having the high street brought to their doorstep, and that’s why we’re excited to continue these partnerships with well-loved retailers like Wilko as we expand Deliveroo Shopping and add more selection for our customers,’ he said.
Deliveroo has partnered with multiple high-street favourites in recent years, including Iceland, Boots and B&Q.
While in the initial stages of Wilko’s first-ever on-demand delivery service, the retailer’s first 10 stores will offer rapid delivery, which can be made through the Deliveroo app.
These include Wilko hubs in Edinburgh, Bristol, Nottingham, Bournemouth, Eccles, Manchester, Bedford, Harlow, Plymouth and Leeds, some of which will open later this month.
It remains unclear how many stores Wilko plans to reopen amid its slow and steady return to Britain’s high streets after falling into administration last year, but they have confirmed that another 50 stores will be opened in the coming months.
At the time of their closure, the retail giant employed around 12,500 workers and had roughly 400 stores.
Soon after the devastating move, CDS Superstores (the trading name for The Range) bought the Wilko name, and in December, they reopened three Wilko stores in Plymouth, Exeter, and Luton.
Three more stores have since been reopened and another in November, with the new bosses revealing plans to open up to 300 new stores across the UK, placing them ‘more or less where they were’ previously.

After announcing the opening of the Uxbridge store, which many hope will boost the local economy, Simpkin said, ‘Our expansion is about bringing Wilko back to the heart of communities, providing quality and value in every corner of the UK.’
Marking Wilko’s return to Greater London, Uxbridge’s launch day will be full of exciting festivities, including offering goody bags to the first 50 shoppers in the queue.
Wilko will also have an exclusive prize in-store for the first person in line and an in-store spin-the-wheel where participants could win gift cards and pick-n-mix vouchers.
