“The man possibly may have felt unwell while swimming,” police say.

An 89-year-old man drowned Monday afternoon in the swimming pool of a Côte-St-Luc condo building.

According to Montreal police, a 911 call about 2:10 p.m. reported a person “who appeared unresponsive in an indoor swimming pool” of a residential building on Norwalk Rd. near Shalom Ave. in the mainly residential suburb.

On arrival, police began resuscitation manoeuvres, said Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils, and continued until paramedics arrived and took over from them.

“Unfortunately, the man, aged 89, was pronounced dead at the scene,” she said.

According to initial information, “the man possibly may have felt unwell while swimming.”

The scene has been protected for investigators, who were at the scene Monday afternoon to analyze it, Chèvrefils said. There is no criminal element in this incident and the investigation has been transferred to the coroner’s office, she said.
