Boy, 4, dies after he’s found burned, freezing and malnourished inside NYC apartment: sources

A 4-year-old boy died hours after he was found burned, freezing and malnourished inside his Harlem apartment late Sunday – while his mom is being questioned in the suspicious death, cops and sources said.

The boy’s mom called 911, claiming she found her son unresponsive inside their apartment on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. near West 144th Street around 7:40 p.m., according to cops and law enforcement sources.

The NYPD responded to the scene – as did EMS workers, who rushed the boy to Harlem Hospital, cops said.

Medical staff at the hospital found that the child had a burn mark on his chest, was severely malnourished and suffered from hypothermia, according to the sources.

The boy died at the hospital early Monday morning.

His mother was taken into custody and brought to Harlem’s 32nd Precinct, where she did not face any charges as of Monday afternoon.

The NYPD said there have been previous “domestic incident reports” inside the apartment where the boy was found, but it’s unclear what they entailed.

The child had three siblings under 8 years old, cops said, but they didn’t appear to have been home when their brother was rushed to the hospital.
