Aston Martin’s DB12 Goldfinger Edition marks film’s 60th anniversary

The British marque has been tied to the James Bond franchise for decades—so why not offer this gold-accented tie-in supercar?

  • To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the film, Aston Martin is producing a ‘Goldfinger Edition’ of its DB12
  • The 4.0L twin-turbo V8 stands ready, as are a host of gold-plated touches—no headlight guns, though
  • The car’s price is For Customers’ Eyes Only, and only 60 examples will be made

Certain car brands are as much ingrained with a film franchise as the human actors themselves, and few have deeper roots than Aston Martin does in the James Bond universe. Generations of movie-goers have watched the suave Brit wheel a variety of models (make your own lewd joke, there) but the franchise always seems to come back to its roots with Aston.

Equipped with a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine making very nearly 700 horsepower, the DB12 Goldfinger Edition should not have any trouble keeping up with villainous masterminds and their henchmen. Aston does note the car will not be equipped with the type of movie gadgets presented to Bond by Q – the globe’s law enforcement agencies take a dim view to headlamp-mounted Gatling guns, for instance – but there are plenty of details added to create an indulgent driving experience worthy of the Bond name.

The exterior is treated to a dandy bright chrome ‘Q’ fender badge, sitting against the Silver Birch paint colour which calls to mind the DB5 in Goldfinger. Those are unique 21-inch wheels sitting ahead of black brake calipers and bespoke gold strakes.

Meanwhile, the cabin gets all sorts of Bond-inspired touches, including 18k-gold-plated accents along some control surfaces. That’s a so-called Prince of Wales check perforation pattern on the seats, plus an “eight of hearts” embroidered into the driver’s sun visor. (Movie buffs will get the reference immediately.) And, yes, there are gold metal fibres woven into the gloss carbon trim.

In addition to the car, each Aston Martin DB12 Goldfinger Edition is presented with an array of gifts accompanying this model. Typical gear like a car cover and key presentation box are on hand, but are joined by too-cool items including a a Silver Birch Speedform model; and a section of the movie’s Furka Pass scene in 35-mm film. All these extras are presented in a Globe-Trotter attaché case, because why not?

True to form, the DB12 Goldfinger Edition will be limited to just 60 copies around the globe.
