CeeDee Lamb says he wasn’t saying anything sordid to Dak Prescott when cameras caught what appeared to be animated comments the Cowboys wideout made to the quarterback Sunday night.
In the third quarter of Dallas’ 20-17 win over the Steelers, Prescott targeted Lamb in the end zone but wound up throwing an interception to Donte Jackson.
When NBC came back from commercial break, viewers saw a replay of Lamb appearing to yell at Prescott.
“Hard to explain. Just throwing it into coverage. Something’s wrong,” color commentator Cris Collinsworth said.
“CeeDee Lamb, at the end of that … I’ll let you read your own lips.”
Prescott did not respond to Lamb in the heat of the moment.
During Cowboys media availability Thursday, Lamb was asked what he had said to the quarterback.
“Jump balls, Four. Jump balls and I got you,” Lamb said (with “Four” referring to Prescott’s number).
This was a reference to Prescott having thrown into coverage where Jackson was able to jump the route, as opposed to throwing it up for grabs where Lamb would have had a chance to out-leap the defensive back.
Prescott was also asked about the interaction, and implied that the chatter about friction with Lamb was overwrought.
“It’s comical,” Prescott said, also confirming that Lamb had wanted a jump ball as opposed to a back-shoulder throw.
While it’s likely that Lamb and Prescott would have been diplomatic about the exchange days later regardless, it also had to help the matter that the Cowboys won the game when Prescott connected with Jalen Tolbert for a touchdown in the game’s final minute.
The Cowboys imrpoved to 3-2, and host the Lions in Dallas this Sunday afternoon.
