Frasier set the bar for sitcom spin-offs when Kelsey Grammer’s Cheers sequel became a massive hit before returning this year for its second revival series.

Now, The Big Bang Theory could follow suit with a new programme in development after Young Sheldon came to an end after seven seasons earlier this year.

It’s been over five years since the original show concluded after 12 series, while George & Mandy’s First Marriage – based on Sheldon’s parents with Montana Jordan and Emily Osment taking the lead – is coming next week.

But that’s not all, as Variety reports another spin-off is now in development focusing on some characters outside the main group, including comic book owner Stuart Bloom.

Kevin Sussman’s alter ego became popular with fans, going on to appear in over 80 episodes and eventually being made a series regular.

It’s believed he could return for the spin-off, with actors Brian Posehn and Lauren Lapkus also set to appear.

Brian played geologist Bert Kibbler, who had a crush on Amy (Mayim Bialik), in 15 episodes from season six, while Lauren’s Denise was the assistant manager at the comic book store and became Stuart’s love interest.

According to reports, the three stars are under ‘talent holding deals’ for the time being, with the show still in development and yet to be officially greenlit for a full series.

People are excited by the prospect, and one fan pointed out that it could follow in Frasier’s footsteps by taking a supporting character and giving them their own programme.

‘The spinoff we should have had back in 2017. Throw Raj in the mix as a lead and you’ve got Frazier for nerds, wrote @ogarangebird on X, while @MarkLIVE pointed out: ‘Comic book store spin off? Everyone can make appearances. lol.’

Plenty of fans are looking forward to another show set in the Big Bang Theory universe, particularly with some characters with plenty to still explore.

‘Looking forward to more laughs and geeky fun. 🤓,’ tweeted @DulguunMaidar, as @simplegamee added: ‘Ok actually super excited for this. I love Stu.’

‘I cant wait to see how this plays out,’ wrote @GabiAvilaX, but not everyone is quite so keen on another adventure without Howard (Simon Helberg), Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Raj (Kunal Hayyar).

‘We don’t need another spin off 💀,’ argued @Lizard69Talking, while @royalbobby24 agreed: ‘Some things just belong in the past Please let it rest 😭’

Others asked how many spin-offs The Big Bang Theory needs, while @lootstationyt ranted: ‘ffs whyy big bang theory was perfect and young sheldon was amazing the first 4 seasons then after that it got so boring and the Georgie and mandy spin off of a spin off like wtf.’

And @wariocheats said: ‘OR… and hear me out… we green light or revive more original sitcoms that had original characters and an original plot line and haven’t gotten to see the light of day instead of making constant revivals and reboots and spin offs.’
