Airdrie business owner facing charges after stolen vehicles discovered at dealership

An Airdrie man is facing several charges following a multi-property search that turned up three stole vehicles with altered vehicle identification numbers.

A search of the dealerships resulted in the discovery of three stolen vehicles, with altered vehicle identification numbers. These vehicles had been sold, or were advertised to be sold, by the dealership.

Another vehicle discovered was determined to be the result of criminal activity.

Officers began the investigation into the dealership in 2023.

The owner of the dealership, Brooks Stella, 26, of Airdrie, has been charged with money laundering, possession of property obtained by crime, possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking, fraud over $5000, forgery and two counts of trafficking of property obtained by crime.

Stella has been released from custody and will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Oct. 23.

Police believe there have been other stolen and fraudulent vehicles sold through the dealership that have not been located. Officers are working with Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) to contact customers who may unknowingly have purchased a stolen or fraudulent vehicle from International Motor Cars.
