Montreal’s Super Ligue du Nord women’s soccer team will officially be called Roses FC.
The club unveiled its name and logo Tuesday night, sporting the blue, red and gold colours at an event near the Old Port.
Among those in attendance were women’s hockey star Marie-Philip Poulin, Super Bowl champion Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and CF Montréal captain Samuel Piette.
The team’s crest features a blue rose with “ROSES,” “MTL” and “FC” in gold letters above it.
Team president Annie Larouche said the process of naming the team took several months and involved two committees — one focused on the brand and the other to get feedback from various socio-cultural backgrounds.
“When the agencies came to us with that name, it was a perfect fit,” she said. “It’s bilingual, it’s feminine, it’s powerful. Roses and thorns: exactly what we want to establish.”
The team’s executives said the team will also be called the Montreal Roses.
The other teams in the league are Vancouver Rise FC, Ottawa Rapid FC, Halifax Tides FC, Calgary Wild FC and AFC Toronto.
The Roses have not revealed where they will play, but they expect to announce it by the end of the year.

“It could be like that for the first season or more,” Larouche said. “We just want to make sure we find the right place for us.”
Former top player Marinette Pichon will be the sporting director, while the head coach position has been entrusted to Robert Rositoiu.
The SLN will begin its inaugural 25-game season in April 2025.
Each club should have a salary cap of $1.5 million for 20 to 25 players; the minimum salary will be $50,000.
