First Deputy Mayor of New York City Sheena Wright officially resigned Tuesday — the latest high-profile departure in an administration that’s been rattled by a sweeping federal corruption case.
News of Wright’s imminent resignation broke last Friday, with one source saying “she’s leaving because she’s being shown the door.”
She will be replaced by Maria Torres-Spring, the city’s deputy mayor for housing.
Wright joins a growing list of recent resignations in the Adams administration — including her new husband, outgoing Schools Chancellor David Banks, who is expected to step down in a matter of weeks, and his brother and close Adams pal, Phil Banks, who resigned as deputy mayor on Sunday.
Adams was charged in a historic indictment accusing him of bribery and corruption.
Cell phones belonging to Wright and the Banks brothers — Phil, David and a third brother Terence — were seized as part of the federal probe.
Sources said Gov. Kathy Hochul has been working behind the scenes to fill the vacant top City Hall posts — but won’t go as far as pushing out Adams before the Nov. 5 election.
