Car torched in St-Léonard a “total loss,” Montreal police say

“Certain elements” discovered at the scene led police to the conclusion that the fire had been deliberately set

The Montreal arson squad has been assigned to investigate after a car was torched early Tuesday in the borough of St-Léonard.

Police said 911 calls were received at about 12:15 a.m. reporting the sound of an explosion in the area of Provencher Blvd. near Delage St.

Officers arriving at the scene found firefighters already had the flames under control. Police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said “certain elements” discovered at the scene led to the conclusion the fire had been deliberately set, adding the car itself was a “total loss.”

There were no injuries reported in the incident. Police will examine local surveillance cameras to try and establish the circumstances leading up to the fire.
