MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough went on an epic rant Monday morning about the supposed threat of “civil war”; talking about the actual issues in this election, we guess, doesn’t help his ratings.
Or maybe he thinks his team is losing on the merits.
Donald Trump and his family are “preparing for civil war,” Scarborough fumed, focusing on weekend speeches by the ex-prez and running-mate J.D. Vance — including one in which Trump had the nerve to note that his enemies have “slandered me, impeached me, indicted me, tried to throw me off the ballot. And who knows? Maybe even tried to kill me.”
All of which is undeniably true.
And pointing it out is fair game: Any Democrat so targeted sure wouldn’t stop talking about it.
It’s not just Scarborough pouring gas on the flames: President Biden himself hinted the same last week in discussing next month’s presidential election: “I don’t know whether it will be peaceful,” he warned.
Really? Does the nation’s highest leader truly want Democrats to prepare for an actual, physical war they pretend Republicans are planning? Could anything be more irresponsible?
Yes, Jan. 6 was an outrage. But it was far from a true insurrection, and there’s no sign yet that we’ll see even that again this year.
These warnings are just a step up from Dems’ equally outlandish claims that a Trump victory spells the end of democracy — claims that provide the context for actual assassination attempts on Trump.
If anything, it’s Dems who’ve circumvented democracy, and not just by weaponizing the judicial system to try to bankrupt and even jail him.
The Harris-Biden folks have knowingly and proudly flouted Congress and laws dealing with the border, student loans, COVID mandates, eviction bans . . .
With their efforts to police “misinformation,” they seek to suppress free speech — the very cornerstone of democracy.
They want to pack the Supreme Court.
True, they can’t run on the Harris-Biden record, which has done so much damage to the nation: Trump leads on every major issue — and even on abortion, the Democrats feel compelled to insist he has a secret (and politically impossible!) plan to completely outlaw it nationwide.
And so they fall back on scaremongering.
If the left cared about the country’s future, they’d stick to policy disagreements, no matter how much of a losing battle that may be.
