The 2023 Canadian Junior Football League champions secured their eighth-straight victory by defeating the host Edmonton Huskies 21-14 on Sunday afternoon.
Saskatoon led 15-0 at the halfway point, thanks to field goals of 22 and 35 yards, as well as convert from Teijon Abel-Douglas, a five-yard receiving major from Datiel Fountaine and a safety given up by the Huskies.
Abel-Douglas added a third field goal, this time from 36 yards out just passed the midway point of the third quarter, but the Huskies got their first major of the game with 22 seconds left in the quarter to cut the lead to 18-7.
The Toppers final points of the game came on a 26-yard field goal from Abel-Douglas two minutes and 14 seconds into the fourth quarter, while Edmonton managed to pick up another major at 8:20 to make the score 21-14, where it would remain until the final whistle.
Heading into their final regular-season matchup, the two teams already knew they’d be facing each other in the PFC semifinal, but this time Edmonton will travel to Saskatoon for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 13 at SMF Field.
