Pro-Palestinian protest in Montreal expected to begin at 2 p.m.

More than 50 demonstrations are planned across Canada, the U.S., and Europe as activists denounce Israel’s military actions following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack.

Pro-Palestinian supporters are set to march through downtown Montreal on Saturday afternoon as part of a global day of action protesting against Israel’s military operations in Gaza.

More than 50 protests are planned across Canada, the U.S., and Europe, including the Montreal demonstration organized by the local chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement.

The protest comes ahead of the anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, when Hamas militants killed about 1,200 people and took 251 hostages, sparking a war that has since escalated into a wider Middle East conflict.

Israel’s subsequent military response has killed more than 41,000 people in Gaza, according to figures from the Hamas-run health ministry.

Montreal police reported on Friday more than 300 protests related to the conflict have taken place in the city since the war broke out.

The protest, titled One Year of Resistance, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Place des Arts.

As of noon, Montreal police said they had no updates on their planned presence at the march.
