Classes cancelled at CEGEP de Valleyfield during police operation

The Sûreté du Québec said it had received a call concerning an employee who had been injured by an attacker.

Friday classes have been cancelled at CEGEP de Valleyfield because of a police operation on the campus.

In a statement issued at 8:15 a.m., the Sûreté du Québec said it received a call at 6:15 a.m. concerning an employee who had been injured by an attacker. A police perimeter was set up around the school.

A suspect was tracked down and taken to hospital. He will be questioned once his state of health allows. The employee was taken to hospital for the treatment of injuries deemed not to be life threatening that had been inflicted with an edged weapon.

The police investigation is continuing.
