Man smashes windows in 75 new vehicles, then causes multi-car crash

To clarify, the two things didn’t happen one after another—the second incident occurred after he was let out of jail on $150 bail

  • A 25-year-old from Maine has been accused of breaking the windows of 75 cars at a dealership
  • After being let out of jail on bail, he then allegedly broke release conditions and caused a car crash
  • This Maine resident now finds himself back in the clink, but this time without bail

A resident of Maine is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly broke the windshields of nearly a hundred vehicles on a car sales lot. Using a backpack apparently filled with heavy items like bricks and free weights, the accused is said to have systematically gone up and down the lines of vehicles at Rowe Auburn on 699 Center Street in Auburn, swinging the pack like it was an Olympic event and causing damage which is estimated to approach six figures.

Most of the destruction was to broken windshields, but some vehicles also got clobbered on their body panels.

The man, reported as one Skyler Henson, was apprehended and tossed in the clink, with bail set at $5,000. But for reasons yet unclear, a judge reduced that sum to just $150, permitting the (alleged) miscreant to post bail and get out from behind bars. The new bail amount was set under a promise the accused would stay under house arrest.

That was in the wee hours of last Saturday morning. When interview by local media, a dealer rep believed the vandalism was random.

But the 25-year-old man had plans other than house arrest after his release, taking his parent’s car for a joyride on Tuesday evening and causing a multi-vehicle crash.

This has landed him back in custody but without bail, as it probably should have been in the first place. For his troubles, the judge has ordered a mental evaluation to see if Henson is fit to stand trial for these crimes.

Local reports say Henson was charged with aggravated criminal mischief in connection with the dealership incident. With the latest antics, police say the additional charges Henson is facing include driving to endanger, operating after suspension, leaving the scene of an accident, and violating conditions of release.
