Trevor Wowk was out on bail, but he’s now back in custody after he allegedly failed to comply with release conditions last week.
A Regina man who once ran for federal political office has landed back in jail after police say he breached his bail conditions.
Trevor Wowk, 63, already faced three criminal charges when the latest allegations were brought against him. He appeared as a new arrest in Regina provincial court on Friday.
It was previously alleged that between July 20 and July 23, 2024, at or near Regina, Wowk intended to “provoke a state of fear” in a police officer in order to impede him in the performance of his duties.
Further, it was previously alleged that on June 12, 2020 he knowingly used a forged document (confirmation of employment letters) as if it were genuine, and he knowingly possessed the identity information (name and signature) of another person “in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference that the information was intended to be used to commit the indictable offence of fraud.”
However, on July 29, he was released on a series of conditions with the consent of the Crown. He initially faced a 24-hour curfew, meaning he had to stay at his residence at all times, unless otherwise authorized. But a few days later that condition was relaxed, confining him to his home only from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., after equipment was made available to allow authorities to monitor his whereabouts electronically.
The first alleges that, on Sept. 25, he failed to comply with a condition of his release order, though precisely how is unclear based on the wording.
The charge lists multiple portions of his release order, including a clause prohibiting him from contacting people associated with his case, such as the police officer he allegedly tried to intimidate, and a person whose identity information he allegedly possessed. It also lists clauses specifying that, while using social media, he was not to refer to the police officer, the officer’s family, or law enforcement agencies and officers generally.
The second charge alleges that, on Sept. 26, he again failed to comply with a condition of his release order, listing clauses stipulating that he must observe his curfew and come to the door of his home to present himself to authorities checking up on him.
At his Friday appearance, the Crown opposed his release from custody. He was sent to jail where he was remanded, and is scheduled to appear in court again in early October.
Wowk ran in the 2019 federal election as a People’s Party of Canada (PPC) candidate in the riding of Regina—Lewvan. Election results indicate 573 ballots were cast in his favour, for 1.1 per cent of the overall vote.
