Woman dies after two-vehicle collision in Gracefield

The driver of the vehicle she was a passenger in was arrested for driving with reduced abilities while under the influence of alcohol.

A passenger of a car was killed in the night between Friday and Saturday following a collision in Gracefield, in the Outaouais.

The driver of the vehicle she was found in was arrested for driving with reduced abilities while under the influence of alcohol.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers were called around 1 a.m. Saturday on Principale St. in Gracefield, following a two-vehicle collision.

Initial reports say the driver of a vehicle in which a passenger was also travelling hit a semi-trailer that was stopped on a public road, said Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, a spokesperson for the SQ. The driver lost control of the vehicle. Nobody was in the semi-trailer.

“The passenger inside the vehicle, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead on site,” Marquis-Guy said.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was taken to a police station to be interviewed by investigators. He was arrested for driving with reduced abilities as well as dangerous driving causing death.

Specialists in collision reconstruction and an SQ investigator went to the scene to shed light on the incident’s circumstances. The inquiry is underway.
