Three men wounded by knife-wielding man in Châteauguay Islamic centre

Suspect, 24, is expected to be arraigned on Saturday.

Three men were injured in an altercation with a man armed with a knife who entered an Islamic cultural centre in Châteauguay on Friday afternoon, Châteauguay police said.

Châteauguay police received a 911 call around 1:40 p.m. by a witness who said a man with a knife had walked into the Centre Culturel Musulman de Châteauguay on St-Jean-Baptiste Blvd., media relations officer Nadia Grondin said.

The armed man had an altercation with three other men inside the building, Grondin said, who managed to subdue the suspect.

Police arrived and arrested a 24-year-old man, who is being questioned by investigators. Grondin said the suspect is expected to be arraigned in Chateauguay on Saturday, although she could not yet specify the charges to be laid.

All three men involved in the confrontation received minor injuries. Only one of them had to be treated in a hospital, Grondin said.
