Nearly half-a-million GM vehicles are also being recalled in the States
- Some GM SUVs and trucks may have problems with a dashboard warning light
- A total of 38,382 vehicles are affected in Canada
- The issue can be fixed with a software update
Owners of late-model half-ton pickups and large SUVs from General Motors may find their vehicles in need of attention in the form of a recall. The good news? It can likely be fixed via an over-the-air update.
The issue stems from a problem with one particular warning light on the dashboard. On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the low brake fluid warning lamp not to illuminate if the brake fluid level gets too low. Naturally, not having the recommended level of brake fluid in one’s vehicle may cause reduced braking and lead to a crash.

- 2023-2024 Cadillac Escalade ESV
- 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2023-2024 GMC Suburban
- 2023-2024 GMC Yukon
- 2023-2024 GMC Yukon XL
It doesn’t seem this recall discriminates against a particular powertrain, meaning both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles may need this update. As a quick reminder, GM offers the 5.3L and 6.2L V8 gasoline engines across this range, along with the 3.0L Duramax diesel. Pickup trucks also may opt for the 2.7L Turbo mill.
Fortunately, the corrective action amounts to a few lines of computer code. GM will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles. This will update the electronic brake control module software and fix the problem. Alternatively, if ya don’t wish to wait for that correspondence, owners may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a GM dealership.
