An unassuming tourist was attacked by a pair of randy deer as he took a picture of his partner.

Footage shows the painful moment the man was rammed painfully by two stags when his back was turned to them.

The tourist can be seen aiming the camera at his partner who sits on a rock in front of a pond in Nara, west of Osaka in Japan, while the two animals loiter nearby.

Suddenly, two deer decide to charge at him with their antlers.

In a split second, one of them stabs him in the bum with its antlers, causing him to fall backwards onto the grass.

The woman rushes to check if he is okay after the painful fall as the deer pair flee.

The tourist was reportedly a Chinese tourist, according to What’s The Jam.

One local claimed: ‘He was sent to the hospital for injuries to his butthole.’

After the footage of the incident on Wednesday spread on Japanese social media, locals said the rutting season is underway.

It means the usually tame and well-behaved male deer can be more aggressive as they compete over mating partners and territory.

As with any wildlife, visitors should approach them with caution.

Stags in Japan grow their antlers every year and come autumn, they will clash violently with other males over the female deer.
