The victim has been identified as a 28-year-old woman from Lethbridge

RCMP in southern Alberta have arrested a 61-year-old man after a 28-year-old woman was found dead on Tuesday near Oyen, Alta.

Oyen RCMP were dispatched on Tuesday at 11:14 a.m. where clothing and other personal effects were found in the tree line along a rural road.

Alberta RCMP’s major crimes unit was activated due to the matter’s suspicious nature, police said. In a further search of the area an adult victim was found deceased, and has since been identified as a 28-year-old woman from Lethbridge.

RCMP have arrested and charged Garry Dean Brown, 61, with second-degree murder. Brown is a resident of Vulcan County.

Brown was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody. His next court date is set for Sept. 25, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Hanna, Alta.

Oyen is a small town approximately 300 kilometres east of Calgary, near the Saskatchewan border.
