Motorcyclist killed in Macleod Trail collision

At approximately 6:45 p.m., police say a 28-year-old man operating a 2024 BMW S 100 RR motorcycle was headed south on Macleod Tr. nearing 99 Ave.

It was then that a 2013 Hyundai Accent travelling northbound and driven by a man in his 80s was turning west at 99 Ave., waiting for oncoming traffic to pass before proceeding.

“As the driver of the Hyundai attempted to turn, the motorcycle struck the vehicle, and the rider was dismounted,” police said in a press release.

“The rider suffered fatal injuries and was declared deceased on scene. The driver of the Hyundai was transported to hospital with minor injuries.”

While police say drugs and alcohol don’t appear to be factors, speed is being investigated as possibly contributing to the collision.
