5 things to do in Calgary this weekend: Sept. 20 to 22

Calgary has a busy weekend of events scheduled, with the Stampeders trying to pull out of last place in the west division, and Pumpkins After Dark kicking off for the season.

Here are more details on those, plus other events to check out in the city.


Beakerhead 2024

Beakerhead will transform TELUS Spark for the weekend, with both fan-favourite and brand new exhibitions, including a giant octopus that allows gets to control its tentacles. There will also be an immersive AI Infinity Dome show, a market and the Beaker Bar, where guests can grab a bite to eat or a beverage. Admission includes entry into the science centre.

When: Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. / 5 p.m. to midnight. Sunday:  9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

WinSport pumpkins after dark

For those who want to get in the Halloween spirit early, it’s the first weekend of WinSport’s Pumpkins After Dark exhibit. There will be a pathway of new pumpkin displays, roaming performers, a pumpkin carving competition and more. Pumpkins After Dark is on until Oct. 31, so there is plenty of time to see all that the display has to offer.

Calgary Stampeders fan appreciation night

Where: McMahon Stadium

When: Friday: 7:30 p.m.

Canadian history trivia night

Recruit a team and test your knowledge for a chance to win a private movie screening. Trivia questions will be about Canadian history, ranging in time from Confederation to World War II all the way up to the year 2000. The bar will be open all night to fill up on drinks and snacks. This event is 18+.

Where: The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland

When: Friday: 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Cost: $25 per team


Drive of Champions: Show and Shine

Where: Spruce Meadows parking lot #8

When: Saturday: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: Free
