ITV star James Nesbitt revealed on Lorraine that he wouldn’t rule out Cold Feet returning to screens more than four years after it was last seen on screens.

The British comedy-drama was a smash hit when it first burst onto the screens in 1998 and kickstarted the Northern Irish actor’s career.

While appearing on ITV’s Lorraine daytime TV show, James, 59, was asked whether he believed that the show is set to return.

The actor, who played Adam Williams in the show, revealed: ‘I’d love to do that.

‘It was such a big part of my life, it opened so many doors for me, people still talk to me about it on a daily basis.

‘It’d be good to do more of it because I think people are still interested in what the characters are doing.’

Originally starring James Nesbitt, Helen Baxendale, John Thomson, Fay Ripley, Hermione Norris, and Robert Bathurst, the series originally focused on three couples and the hilarious situations they found themselves.

The original series aired from November 1998 but ended in 2003 after 32 episodes and five seasons.

A revival returned in 2016 but ended after four seasons in 2020. The reboot starred all the original cast members, except for Helen Baxendale who was killed off in a car accident.

It was later reported that Helen almost returned to Cold Feet after her character was killed off.

In an interview with The Guardian, creator Mike Bullen revealed they initially wrote a part for the actress, but she didn’t fancy returning as a ghost.

‘She said, “Thanks but no thanks – it’s a crap part.”

‘She definitely made the right decision. It was just me being sentimental,’ he added.

Alongside the comedy, the show explored some more serious lines including Fay Ripley’s character receiving a devastating breast cancer diagnosis, which only made the gripping series more popular with fans.

The show ended in 2020 Mike Bullen teased that the show could return after some time: ‘We feel we’ve explored to our satisfaction the issues confronting the characters at this stage of their lives and we want to give them all a little time to move on, to put clear water between the stories we’ve told thus far and the issues they’ll be exploring when they are empty nesters staring down the barrel of grandparenthood.

‘We’re looking forward to returning at a later date to document the agony and the ecstasy of the third age…’

A press release added: ‘The Cold Feet team have proved that life never stops being funny, challenging and bittersweet. So, although the show will take a well-earned break, we all look forward, when the time is right, to returning to warm the nation’s hearts once again.’

So after a four-year break from our screens, is the time right yet?
