Celebrities adore Vivienne Westwood, from Taylor Swift to Jenna Ortega

The late, great Dame Vivienne Westwood passed away in 2022, but her legacy is alive and well on the red carpet.

The responsibility for maintaining that legacy — which includes punk influences, impeccable corseting and political activism — was passed on to Westwood’s widower, Andreas Kronthaler, who shared in Westwood’s creative process since their first meeting in 1988.

That steadfast vision is part of the reason why celebrities continue to clamor for all things Westwood. From custom couture looks to archival pulls, here are a handful of recent looks from one of fashion’s most beloved labels.

“Cannes” you dig it? At the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival this May, Vivienne Westwood was omnipresent. Attending the 2024 amfAr Gala, supermodel Barbara Palvin Sprouse wore a peachy creation that fit so beautifully, it looks like it was made just for her — because it was.

Cannes jury member and Bond girl extraordinaire Eva Green exuded gothic allure in her Vivienne Westwood ensemble for a photo call, while Hunter Schafer’s fun, floral look for a Nespresso x Brut party can best be described as “Euphoric.”

After the release of her eleventh studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” the department chairman (also known as global megastar Taylor Swift) also decided it was time to get in on the Westwood action. In her globe-trotting Eras Tour, she unveiled a custom look featuring lyrics from the new album scrawled across the skirt.

The collaboration couldn’t be more appropriate, as “I love you, it’s ruining my life” is not only a lyric from summer hit “Fortnight,” but also the exact phrase uttered by anyone who presses “add to cart” while perusing Westwood’s wares online.

Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones — who starred alongside Glen Powell in summer blockbuster “Twisters” — looked both windswept and meticulous in her own custom look from Vivienne Westwood for the film’s London premiere. While the black-and-brown color combination might not fly from lesser designers, the hues paired beautifully with the actress’s soft brown locks and light complexion.

A slew of other recent Westwood wearers further prove how ubiquitous the brand’s influence is in Hollywood. At the premiere of “Shell” at Toronto International Film Festival this month, Kate Hudson embodied Westwood’s classic deconstructed glamor with a two-tone pink gown that lit up the room.

Promoting “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” at Venice Film Festival, Italian icon Monica Bellucci opted for a high-drama black gown, while co-star Jenna Ortega resurrected a look from the designer’s spring 2009 collection promoting the film in Mexico City.

Finally, the talented Mr. Andrew Scott was extremely suave in a Westwood suit at the Emmys last Sunday, where he was nominated for his role as the titular character in Netflix’s “Ripley.”
