Tyler Perry’s 55th birthday called for a royal celebration.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were among those that attended the party at a $31 million mansion in Montecito, Calif., over the weekend, according to the Daily Mail.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who lived in the famous filmmaker’s Beverly Hills mansion when they permanently relocated from across the pond in 2020, were photographed in good spirits leaving the party on Saturday.
The photos showed Meghan, 43, smiling while sitting next to Harry, 40, in the back seat of a Range Rover.
The couple attended Perry’s party along with star-studded faces like Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King and Alicia Keys.
Other attendees reportedly included Paramount CEO Brian Robbins and his wife Tracy, who are neighbors of the Sussexes and have gone to dinner with them before, including on Harry and Meghan’s sixth wedding anniversary in May.
An employee from a lighting company who was hired to decorate the party told the Daily Mail there was “a lot of music, dancing and singing.”
“Everyone was having a lot of fun. It was a good party. There were a lot of famous people,” he also said.
Harry and Meghan reportedly stayed at the party for four hours. They had a professional driver bring them home and were accompanied by security and another friend, per Daily Mail.
Perry has a long-standing friendship with the Sussexes. He famously lent them his $18 million LA estate when they moved to California after quitting the royal family.
In Meghan and Harry’s 2022 Netflix docuseries, Perry revealed he reached out to Meghan after he saw negative stories in the press about her father Thomas Markle.
“I’m not a royal watcher, I don’t really pay attention to a lot of stuff,” he said. “But I saw something about her father [posing for the paparazzi]. I found it to be hurtful if he were my father. And I couldn’t even imagine this woman finding the man that she loved, the man of her dreams, and him being a prince, and then to walk into all of that madness and need the security of family and then have your father do some horrible things.”
Meghan said in the docuseries she finally contacted Perry when she and Harry were in Canada, before they officially relocated to the US.
“[It was] the first time we ever spoke. And I was just a wreck, I was crying and crying,” she recalled. “Like sometimes it’s easier to just open up to someone who knows nothing at all. And that was that moment with me and Tyler.”
Perry is also the godfather to Harry and Meghan’s 3-year-old daughter, Lilibet.
The “Gone Girl” star went to Lilibet’s christening in March 2023. It was reported that he brought a 10-person choir that performed for all the guests.
