Suspected arson forces early morning evacuation of homes in West Island

Only vehicles were damaged by the fire, police said, though that damage was serious. No one was injured.

Residents of several West Island homes were woken up early Saturday morning as a suspected arson led police to order an evacuation of nearby residences.

Police say a 911 call was made shortly after 2 a.m. to report a truck on fire on De l’Anse-à-l’Orme Road, near the intersection with Sainte-Marie Road, close to the boundary between Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue and Kirkland.

The flames quickly spread to other vehicles, police said.

“As a preventative measure, police officers evacuated several residences on Bridgewood St. The firefighters then brought the flames under control,” said police spokesperson Const. Sabrina Gauthier.

Only vehicles were damaged by the fire, she said, though that damage was serious. No one was injured.

“According to the information received, more than one suspect were seen on the scene setting the fire. No arrests have been made at this time,” she said.

Arson investigators were dispatched.
