SWEAT at 10: Celebrating a decade of disco-decadent DJing, SWEAT DJ Collective is throwing an exciting, double-decker bash.
“Ten years feels old, for sure,” said DJ Joses Martin with a laugh, noting The Backyard downtown party is all-ages, jumpy kids welcome.
Then, the 18+ afterparty jumps south to Grindstone — live shows from Alex Maher and Apollo Suns of lovely Winnipeg, as well as Joses and Moody Lion DJ sets.
You’ll dance, guaranteed, so please prepare to party all night!
“I have always been attracted to old-looking vehicles,” says the artist. “I wonder, ‘What is your story? How did you become this way?’ I want to immortalize them and especially capture their beauty in their current habitats.”
Bachynski will also be at the gallery from noon – 2 p.m. Saturday, with all of her proceeds going to charity.
Mandolin Books: Ugh, it always sucks to lose a bookstore.
Forced to vacate by its building’s new owners, Mandolin Books in Highlands is closing its doors at the end of September.
“This is really not how I wanted Mandolin to end,” says 10-year owner Lianne Traynor.
Sharon Skage established the used bookshop, venue, and sometimes gallery and café in 2003.
“For 21 years, Mandolin has been a treasured gathering place where community grows,” Traynor says.

“I will miss you all,” Traynor says.
