Taste of Calgary

Taste of Calgary is on all weekend, giving visitors a chance to sample the city’s diverse cuisine. In addition to food and beverages, the event will showcase musicians and local artisans, and have interactive activities. Leashed pets are welcome.

Where: Calgary Parking Authority Lot #6 – 311 8 Street S.W.

When: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Cost: Free admission. $1 per sampling ticket.


Calgary Fringe Festival

The Calgary Fringe Festival is on all weekend, celebrating the city’s theatre scene. The fringe festival brings together emerging and established artists to tell their stories. This festival strives to provide Calgary with accessible and unique theatre performance, and celebrates creative freedom.

When: August 2 to 10: various times

Cost: $20 per show


Heritage Park drive-in movies

Heritage Park is showing double-features all weekend on the big screen. Friday’s films are Jaws and Birds, Saturday is showing Goonies and E.T. and Sunday features include The Mummy and Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark. The retro drive-in movie night will have classic movie snacks, like popcorn, hot dogs and cotton candy, available as well.

Calgary Surge playoff game

The Calgary Surge take on the Winnipeg Sea Bears this weekend’s Western Conference playoff game. The Surge are in a good position to win, as they sit ahead of the Sea Bears in the standings, positioned third in the Western Conference.

When: Friday: 7:30 p.m.

Simulator Day at the Hangar Flight Museum

This weekend, the Hangar Flight Museum is hosting its first ever simulator day. This is a chance to experience first-hand what it’s like to be a pilot. The minimum age for this event is 10, and time slots need to be booked in advance.

Movie night at The Confluence

The Confluence Historic Site and Parkland hosts a weekly movie night, and this weekend’s feature film is Grease. Tickets include after-hours admission to the Confluence Cultural Centre and a small popcorn, with additional snacks, drinks and alcohol available for purchase.

Incredible India Fest

The 3rd annual Incredible India Fest is a celebration of rich culture, diversity and traditions of India. The free event will feature cultural performances, vendors, live music, traditional singing and dance, a range of activities for kids and authentic food stalls, and the first 100 guests will receive a swag bag.

Calgary Stampeders Heritage Night

The Stampeders play the Argonauts this weekend at the Heritage Night game. Before kickoff, there will be a cultural night market in the Gridiron Gardens. This event is designed to welcome new Canadians to the Stampeders family, offering them a chance to learn about the game and league.

Tour de Bowness Street Festival

The Tour de Bowness street festival and bike race is a free, family-friendly celebration with bike races, food trucks, live music and more than 100 local vendors. Bike races begin at 9 a.m., with kids races at 1 p.m. Leashed pets are welcome.
