Will a fireworks-free deadline be the answer to the Yankees’ and Mets’ needs?

Though it wasn’t devoid of action, Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline was rather quiet.

There were calculated moves and deals that could make an impact on the pennant races, but by 6 p.m. (or a little later given the lag in reporting the late transactions), it was hard to see any trajectory-changing deals.

Luis Robert Jr. and Garrett Crochet didn’t go anywhere. The White Sox’s sell-off didn’t include the center fielder or ace left-hander, who has a 3.23 ERA.

Despite interest from the Yankees, Blake Snell stayed with the Giants, and former Silver Slugger winner Yandy Diaz, who has struggled this season, stayed put with the Rays, who depleted much of their roster while just 3 ½ games back of the final AL wild-card spot.
