Orioles continue to fortify rotation by adding Marlins lefty Trevor Rogers in trade

The Orioles continue to add pitching for both 2024 and beyond.

Baltimore acquired its second starter of this trade cycle, landing lefty Trevor Rogers from the Marlins, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed.

The Marlins are receiving the Orioles No. 5 prospect — per MLB.com’s rankings — Connor Norby, and outfielder Kyle Stowers, according to The Athletic.

The Orioles are gearing up for their playoff push and have been focusing on adding pitching, with their offense already one of the top units in the sport.

They also have been targeting pitchers with multiple years of control.

Baltimore, which leads the Yankees by a half-game in the AL East, previously acquired Rays righty starter Zach Eflin, who has one year left on his contract.

In Rogers, the Orioles are landing an inconsistent lefty who is under team control through the 2026 season.

Rogers, 26, is 2-9 with a 4.53 ERA this season, but the Orioles seemingly believe there’s room for improvement once he gets away from a bottom-feeding team.

The former first-round pick produced his best season in 2021 when he went 7-8 with a 2.64 ERA, landing on the NL All-Star team and and finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting.

Since that season, though, Rogers is 7-22 with a 4.92 ERA spanning 48 starts.

The Orioles now could turn to ace Corbin Burnes, emerging righty Grayson Rodriguez, Eflin and potentially Rogers, should they reach the ALDS.

Baltimore also recently added to its bullpen by acquiring righty Seranthony Dominguez and light-hitting outfielder Christian Pache from the Phillies for outfielder Austin Hays.

For the Marlins, this continues an active trade season that also included sending infielder/outfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the Yankees for three prospects.

Closer Tanner Scott is a hot name ahead of Tuesday’s 6 p.m. ET deadline.

The AL East has been busy Wednesday with the Yankees acquiring righty reliever Mark Leiter Jr. from the Cubs and the Red Sox landing righty reliever Lucas Sims from the Reds before 2 p.m. ET.
