Over a dozen charges laid following Calgary drug trafficking investigation

Two people are facing 13 charges after an investigation into drug trafficking led to the seizure of weapons and drugs.

In April, Calgary police arrested a woman for possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking on two separate occasions, only a few days apart.

This prompted an investigation into the drug supply. Officers conducted a search warrant related to the investigation on July 9 at a residence in the 7200 block of 22 Street S.E. in Calgary’s Lynwood neighbourhood.

Officers located “street-level distribution amounts of drugs” within the home, including MDMA, liquid and powder methamphetamine and fentanyl.

In addition to the drugs, police found and seized a white, semi-automatic .22 rifle, a sawed-off shotgun with a defaced serial number, ammunition, including for a .22 and shotgun, and a prohibited rifle magazine.

Two individuals were arrested in the home.

Kacie Rae Affleck, 25, has been charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance, and five charges relating to the seized weapons.

Affleck is due in court on August 9.

Fred Maxwell West, 61, has been charged with five charges relating to the seized weapons.

West is due in court on August 2.

“We know drug trafficking and weapons go hand-in-hand, as does the danger both present to our community. We remain committed to ensuring this activity does not go unchecked,” said District 1 general investigations unit staff sergeant Brad Moore.
