A hearing for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh, to legally change her name has now been postponed.

In May, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt filed documents to drop her famous dad’s surname shortly after she turned 18 – amid her parents’ ongoing legal battles.

She later announced her intention via an ad in the Los Angeles Times, per California law, and was due to attend a hearing this week.

However, according to People Magazine, the meeting has now been pushed back to next month, following an incomplete background check.

Her lawyer, Peter Levine, confirmed the news in a statement to the outlet, explaining: ‘Unfortunately, the court was unable to complete the background check ahead of today’s hearing, so the hearing was rescheduled for August 19.

‘Everyone undergoing a name-change request needs to have a background check conducted by the court clerk, and because of clerical error, Shiloh’s hearing has been continued to a new date.’

Brad and Angelina welcomed Shiloh together in 2006, and also share five other children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Vivienne and Knox.

They called time on their marriage in 2016, with their divorce still ongoing.

Shiloh first filed the petition to change her name on May 27, the day she turned 18.

The teenager later made her intention clear by taking out an ad in the legal notice section of the Los Angeles Times – TMZ reports that it stated that if a person objects to the name change, they are invited to attend the court date later this month.

According to California law, a person must publish the legal forms to change their name in a newspaper for one month before a judge can approve the petition.

However, she isn’t the first of their brood to take the step as Vivienne also appears to have dropped her dad’s last name.

Her choice was revealed on the playbill for her new musical The Outsiders, with the credits listing her just as ‘Vivienne Jolie’ – while Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie when she joined the Mu Pi chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in November.

It is not clear whether they have legally changed dropped their dad’s surname.

A source close to Brad recently told People that the Bullet Train actor is ‘aware and upset’ about his daughter’s decision to drop his name.

‘He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name,’ the source told the news outlet. ‘The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad.’

They added that while he is ‘happy’ in his budding relationship with Ines de Ramon, being distanced from his children ‘pains him’.

It follows news of Angelina’s plea to end the former couple’s lengthy legal battleThe battle began when the Maleficent star sold her half of their shared winery, Château Miraval, for $67million (£51million) after verbal discussions fell through.

According to Brad, he offered to buy her out of the business.

The battle has become increasingly messy and included multiple allegations of abuse, including during the 2016 private plane incident that occurred one week before Angelina filed for divorce.

Angelina’s lawyer, Paul Murphy, issued a statement to the publication, describing the Fight Club actor’s offer as ‘trying to punish and control his client by demanding a newly expanded NDA to cover his personal misconduct and abuse.’

He added: ‘Those actions are central to these proceedings. We are not at all surprised Mr. Pitt is afraid to turn over the documents demonstrating these facts.

‘While Angelina again asks Mr. Pitt to end the fighting and finally put their family on a clear path toward healing, unless Mr. Pitt withdraws his lawsuit, Angelina has no choice but to obtain the evidence necessary to prove his allegations wrong.’

The former couple first met in 2005 while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith and married in 2014 before separating in 2016.
