The Fizz, famous for winning Eurovision with their hit Making Your Mind Up more than 40 years ago, are going through some changes after original singer Mike Nolan announced he was quitting the band for ‘personal reasons’ earlier this year.

Now, his former bandmates Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston have put out an advert calling on members of the public to audition for the group with two new spots vacant.

On the poster titled Making Our Mind Up, the advert states: ‘Legendary 80s pop group seeking two experienced male singers.’

Experience required includes: ‘Singing and vocal harmony, good movement and basic dance skills, and must be familiar with in ear monitors.’

The ideal candidates also need to have ‘essential attributes’ too, such as being aged over 40, stand between 5’7 and 5’11 tall, have a slim build and preferably fair hair. Those based in the south east with a driver’s licence and a car will have even more of an advantage over their competition.

There’s a bit of time to brush up your skills as auditions are set to take place in London on September 10.

It comes after Mike, 69, fought back tears on ITV1’s Lorraine on Monday while discussing his decision to leave The Fizz after 43 years.

Joined by his longtime besties Cheryl and Jay, Mike said: ‘I feel like I’ve had enough. The last show I will do with them will be sad but I’ll be happy, I want to relax and take it easy.’

‘I’ve been thinking about it for like two to three years but then finally at the beginning of this year I thought there’s no point dragging it out, I’ll just tell them and they weren’t happy, were you?’ he added while looking at Cheryl.

Cheryl quipped back: ‘I was ecstatic!’ before Mike revealed: ‘You were not ecstatic, they were in actual in tears!’

He then joked: ’43 years I’ve been in Bucks Fizz! If I did murder, I’d do less time!’

Cheryl then teased the future of the band with herself and Jay, adding: ‘We are going back to the format when we were on Eurovision we are looking for two guys of a certain age as we are a certain age but it works better vocally and we still do the dance routines.’

Jay chipped in: ‘If people want to send their information go to our website but we are looking for someone like over 50.’

Fans will have a chance to say farewell to Mike as The Fizz will host a final concert before he bows out for good.

Mike first broke the sad news in May, explaining that he was leaving ‘for personal reasons’ but was hesitant to go into specific detail.

The Fizz, then performing as Bucks Fizz, became a pop phenomenon in 1981 when they competed in the Eurovision Song Contest, which they won along with former member Bobby G.

Making Your Mind Up soared to number one and the group went on to achieve two more chart-toppers with The Land of Make Believe and My Camera Never Lies, along with a string of other hits.
