Prince William ‘banned’ Meghan Markle from wearing Princess Diana’s jewelry: book

Prince William banned Meghan Markle from wearing the late Princess Diana’s jewelry at her wedding to Prince Harry, a new book has claimed.

According to royal correspondent and author Robert Jobson, the Prince of Wales, 42, was concerned about his now-estranged brother’s fast-moving relationship with the “Suits” alum.

In an excerpt from his upcoming book, “Catherine, the Princess of Wales,” obtained by the Daily Mail, Jobson said that the heir to the throne urged his younger brother, 39, to “cool the relationship” by giving Markle, 42, a chance to adjust to the royal way of life before locking it down with a ring.

“William, still concerned by the match, even sought assurances from the Queen that his brother’s bride-to-be would not wear any jewelry in the collection once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, even though his wife Catherine had been allowed to wear some, which would be due to her rank,” Jobson wrote.

William, for his part, proposed to Princess Catherine with the late Princess Diana’s infamous 12-carat sapphire-and-diamond ring.

The royal author claimed that relations between the feuding brothers worsened well before Markle joined the royal fold.

Their rocky relationship was only made worse when Harry introduced the former actress to William and Kate Middleton, as Jobston notes that the future king was concerned by the pace at which Harry and Markle were progressing.

“Harry claimed that the goodwill from William and Catherine disappeared long before the build-up to his wedding,” Jobson wrote.

“William had confided to his brother that he believed it would be better to give Meghan more time to adjust to the royal way of life and suggested he cool the relationship.

“Harry felt affronted and judged it to be an insult. As a direct result, his relationship with his brother deteriorated fast. According to Harry’s book ‘Spare,’ William physically attacked him,” he added.

Harry and Markle met for the first time in June 2016, and the pair struck up a relationship just five months later.

The prince then popped the all-important question in November 2017, and the pair tied the knot at Windsor Castle in May 2018.

The Post has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.

Elsewhere, Jobson claimed that King Charles and Prince William furiously clashed over the safety of the royal family flying in a helicopter.

The monarch, 75, “raised concerns” with the Prince of Wales, 42, over his helicopter use with Kate and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — resulting in a heated exchange between the pair.

Jobson claimed that Charles put his foot down on the family’s use of helicopters, citing safety issues as the reason for his concern.

He also added that the king even presented William — the heir to the throne — with “a formal document acknowledging the risks involved and taking full responsibility for his actions.”
