Police arrest driver after fatal hit-and-run in Mont-Tremblant

The suspect, a man in his 20s, allegedly hit a pedestrian in his 30s around 2 a.m. Saturday.

MONT-TREMBLANT — The Sûreté du Québec is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in Mont-Tremblant, in the Laurentides region.

Emergency services were notified Saturday of the collision involving a pedestrian that occurred around 2 a.m. on Montée Ryan.

“According to initial information, a man in his 30s suffered serious injuries after being found on the ground. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, where, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead,” said Élizabeth Marquis-Guy, a spokesperson for the SQ.

The suspect in this case is a man in his 20s who was quickly arrested.

The driver allegedly hit the pedestrian and continued on his way without stopping, police said.

“He could face charges of hit-and-run causing death, as well as driving a vehicle while impaired,” Marquis-Guy said.

The suspect was expected to be met by investigators in the coming hours. The investigation was entrusted to the Major Crimes Section of the Sûreté du Québec.

A reconstructionist specializing in accident scenes was called to the scene.
