Speeding motorist clocked at 182 km/h on rural road earns $1,751 ticket

The 37-year-old Brossard man also got dinged for 18 demerit points and had his driver’s licence suspended.

A 37-year-old speeder from Brossard clocked doing 182 kilometres an hour on a rural road east of Montreal on Friday was hit with a $1,751 ticket, 18 demerit points and had his licence suspended.

At around 1:30 p.m., a Sûreté du Québec officer stopped a vehicle for excessive speeding on Grand Rang St-François (Route 235), near Ste-Pie, located north of Granby about 60 kilometres east of Montreal.

The posted speed limit on the road is 90 km/h.

In addition to the fine and demerit points, his driver’s license was immediately suspended for a period of seven days.

The SQ warns motorists speed is one of the leading causes of fatal collisions and the risk of being involved in a collision is increased by driving above the speed limit.

The provincial police force is closely monitoring the roads during the construction holiday break, when thousands of Quebecers take to the road and traffic fatalities mount.
