Loto-Québec winner learns he won $5 million via email, but doesn’t believe it

A skeptical Paul Bidault didn’t tell his spouse the good news until a few days later after confirming with the lottery agency.

Paul Bidault found out he was $5 million richer via email. He didn’t believe it at first.

According to a media release from Loto-Québec, the Montérégie resident had been buying his Lotto 6/49 tickets online via a subscription for years. The day after the July 20 draw, he checked his email and was shocked to see a message from Loto-Québec telling him he had won the $5 million classic jackpot in the Lotto 6/49 draw.

Thinking the email might be fraudulent, Bidault, 40, called in and checked with a Loto-Québec employee. He also double-checked on the Loto-Québec website. It took him a few days to tell his spouse, because he was still having a hard time believing it.

He received his cheque during a presentation at the Casino de Montréal on July 26.

With his winnings, he plans to retire early and take more time to indulge one of his passions — travelling.
