Possible tornado touched down in Brossard, Environment Canada says

The suspected twister formed around 8 p.m. on Matte Blvd., flipping a truck and uprooting trees.

A possible tornado touched down in South Shore Brossard Wednesday evening, flipping a truck and uprooting numerous trees.

The suspected twister formed around 8 p.m. on Matte Blvd. Longueuil police, who also patrol Brossard, said the driver of the tractor trailer that was flipped over was slightly injured.

“All signs seem to point to its being a tornado,” said Environment Canada meteorologist Félix Biron, adding that a rotating column of air approached the area before the damage occurred. He said Environment Canada will investigate on Thursday to confirm whether the phenomenon was indeed a tornado and, if so, of what intensity.

Matt Blvd. was closed to traffic between Highway 30 and Du Quartier Blvd. Thursday morning.

Heavy rains swept southern Quebec on Wednesday night, most notably in Montreal, the Laurentians, Lanaudière and in the Montérégie.
