Kamala Harris crowned Dem queen: Letters to the Editor — July 25, 2024

The Issue: Vice President Kamala Harris consolidates Democrat support with key endorsements.

While Vice President Kamala Harris has already garnered support from Democrats and key organizations, she certainly should not and must not be automatically declared the official nominee (“The ‘plot’ to pluck Joe,” July 24).

When the Democratic National Convention convenes in Chicago there needs to be an open convention, so that if there are those who might also want to throw their hat in the ring, they may do so. This is not and should not be a coronation.

Harris needs to explain fully why she feels she is the most qualified person to receive the party nomination. Given her dismal track record on dealing with the border crisis, as well as other issues during her 3 ¹/₂ years as vice president, why would anyone in their right mind consider voting for her?

The American people are now essentially being told to firmly stand behind Vice President Kamala Harris as their newly anointed Democrat presidential candidate for the 2024 election.

The Democratic machine, led by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has done a grave disservice to our political system in this speedy decision.

Make no mistake about it: Kamala Harris is the de facto nominee and will be anointed as such during the Democratic National Convention.

How ironic is that this VP under President Biden had an approval rating around 38%. However, now that she is the appointee, the Dems are making her out to be the savior of their ailing party.

For the past couple of years, Mayor Adams has been pleading with Washington for help dealing with migrants flooding into New York City — with little success (“Mayor Adams endorses Kamala Harris hours after slamming her for border crisis,” July 22).

Now he endorses Harris for president? Isn’t she supposed to be the inept “border czar” who is at least partially responsible for the arrival of migrants in NYC?

With this endorsement, Adams reveals he is not aligned with his citizens; just interested in kissing up to the national ringleaders.

Having the mayor endorse the person who is in charge of securing the border is just another slap in the face of New Yorkers.

The Issue: Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich sentenced to 16 years in Russian prison.

What a sad state of affairs that Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich has been sentenced to 16 years in a Russian penal colony and the Biden administration does nothing (“16 yrs. For U.S. Journo,” July 20).

Meanwhile, President Biden was pouting away at his Delaware beach house, as he’s been deposed as the Democratic nominee.

The rest of us will remain in limbo and hope that Vladamir Putin’s long arm doesn’t snatch us out of a line at an airport.

Our country is running on fumes. It is rudderless and leaderless.

At least when former President Donald Trump was in office, our adversaries knew well enough not to test him, as Putin is doing with Gershkovich.

Evan Gershkovich was found guilty of espionage and sentenced to 16 years in prison in Russia.

Evan might have a better chance of the US facilitating his release from Russian custody if he were a professional basketball player.

That seemed to be Brittney Griner’s golden ticket.
