Michael Irvin’s three-peat warning for Travis Kelce: ‘Think about it for the rest of your life’

Cowboys Hall of Fame inductee Michael Irvin warned Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce about the potential ramifications of the Chiefs’ pursuit of a third straight Lombardi trophy.

“I spent some time with him,” Irvin said on the “Jim Rome Show” on Monday of an offseason meeting with Kelce at a Mavericks game. “He grabbed me and hugged me real tight and said, ‘Michael, tell me about that three-peat chase.’

“I said, ‘Every day, man. Every day. When I put head to pillow at night and when I wake up and put toothbrush to tooth in the morning, I think about that one that got away. I think about that ’94 championship game.’ … I said to him, ‘Whatever you do, do all you can do to make that happen. … I’m telling you, if you leave anything on the table and you don’t get it, you will think about it for the rest of your life, like I do.’”

Irvin went on to say that the Chiefs ‘have a great chance’ to three-peat because Kelce was already thinking about the next Super Bowl after Kansas City had just won their second this February.

Irvin won three rings in four years with the Cowboys — 1993, 1994 and 1996 seasons — with the lone setback coming in the 1995 NFC Champions game when Steve Young and the 49ers beat Dallas, 38-28.

Kelce, of course, has won three already with a similar Kansas City nucleus that has featured himself, Patrick Mahomes and defensive building block Chris Jones, while being led by coach Andy Reid.

The Cowboys swapped out coach Jimmy Johnson after winning back-to-back titles in 1993 and 1994, with Barry Switzer coaching the team to the 1996 triumph.

Irvin mentions that Kelce is “his favorite dude” in the NFL, which is something that the tight end’s girlfriend Taylor Swift likely claims as well.

The powerful couple could’ve easily distracted the team throughout the 2023 season, but they were able to stay in control and cruise through the playoffs, winning the Super Bowl in overtime over the 49ers.
