Keanu Reeves has admitted that he is increasingly thinking about his mortality as he opened up in a recent interview.
Keanu Reeves is known as being the most generous man in Hollywood and has been dubbed the internet’s husband after a series of sweet gestures that have been clocked by fans over the years.
Although he might be a well-established sweetheart, the actor has confessed that he has a morbid side and joked that he is constantly thinking about death now that he is closing in on turning 60.
‘I’m 59, so I’m thinking about death all the time,’ he admitted in a candid interview.
When the reporter disagreed and said he was young he conceded and said: ‘I’m young-old.’
‘Hopefully, it’s not crippling, but hopefully, it’s sensitised [us] to an appreciation of the breath we have and the relationships that we have the potential to have,’ he told the BBC.
The Speed actor has been promoting his first-ever novel, the Book of Elsewhere, written in collaboration with British science fiction author China Miéville.
The story is a violent tale of a superhero trying to discover his mortality, which is perhaps what has prompted such dark discussion points in recent interviews.
Speaking to The Irish Times the actor spoke about the process of writing and said: ‘It surprised me in the creative act, what gets revealed to oneself.
He added that he found he reflected on having issues with his parents as he said: ‘Maybe the creative act is a kind of talking, you know. And so maybe I have father issues and mother issues. And maybe I think about death.’
‘Maybe I don’t understand the violence of the world. I don’t understand that we all know we’re going to die, and we kill each other over things that are, perhaps as you look back at them, not so important. Maybe I wonder about the world, you know, how did we get here, who are we.’
The actor has had a bout of poor luck recently as he fractured his kneecap on set earlier this year and in December his house was burgled by men in ski masks.
Despite these setbacks, the actor has also maintained a tightly packed schedule and is set to take on a number of major projects in the next few years.
The actor is associated with the new Sonic the Hedgehog movie, a new film with Seth Rogan and Aziz Ansari titled Good Fortune, Jonah Hill’s black comedy film Outcome on Apple TV and a 2025 spin-off from his beloved John Wick franchise titled John Wick Presents: Ballerina.
