Sydney Sweeney’s Verizon phone number hijacked same day X account promoted crypto: report

Sydney Sweeney’s phone number was reportedly hacked the same day she was a victim of a cryptocurrency scam.

According to tech website 404 Media, the Verizon phone number belonging to the “Euphoria” star, 26, was hijacked on July 2.

That same day, Sweeney’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account was compromised and promoted a cryptocurrency.

A copy of a Verizon receipt from July 2 was posted online and obtained by technology news site 404 Media.

The image shows a person’s hand on a Verizon receipt next to an iPhone and its box on the trunk of a car.

The receipt is for a $37.54 payment order completed on July 2.

It reads, “Hi SYDNEY SWEENEY, Thank you for your order.”

The Post has reached out to Sweeney’s reps for comment.

A Verizon spokesperson, Rich Young, said in a statement to The Post that he could not “discuss a specific customer situation” but added, “Verizon takes customer privacy and account security very seriously. When an issue is brought to our attention, we work quickly to investigate and remediate the issue, and work to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”

Sweeney’s official X account was seemingly accessed by the same hackers who messed with her phone number.

On July 2, the account — which has over 1 million followers — promoted a crypto scam which commonly happens to celebrities.

The cryptocurrency coin called SWEENEY reportedly made $10 million in trading volume after the hackers shared it on Sweeney’s account.

“Well I think it’s time… sweeney is now live 100mc incoming,” one of the now-deleted tweets from Sweeney’s account read.

Another post said, “$sweeney to the MOON. Queen of Sol bby. GIVING AWAY $10K WORTH OF $SWEENEY RT TO ENTER.”

In a third tweet, Sweeney’s account claimed she was “going live on spaces soon” to promote the crypto.

Other celebrities who have been targeted by crypto scams include 50 Cent, Hulk Hogan and Caitlyn Jenner.

Sweeney dealt with other social media drama in March after she hosted “Saturday Night Live.”

Users on X searched for “leaked” lewd photos of Sweeney, and they were met with a flood of spam and possible malware.

The content trended in violation of X’s rules and policies.

“if you’re catching obvious malware because you were looking for sydney sweeney’s boobs on twitter you’re beyond help,” wrote Samantha Cole, who reported about the scam results for 404 Media.

404 Media claimed that the spam content is thriving on X because of how “under-moderated the platform” is under Elon Musk.

The platform formerly known as Twitter has grappled with a proliferation of hate speech, misinformation, spam and as a result, lost advertisers since the mega-billionaire bought the platform in 2022 with the intent to make it a “free speech bastion.”
